THE PAIN THAT WON’T GO AWAY

No, don’t get me wrong……I’m not referring to emotional pain, I know it’s the pain known to men that medical practitioners and pain killers can't take away.

But hell! I can’t sleep soundly as I turn myself left and right on my bed. Even when I set down, I can feel so much pain on my lower hipbone, around the buttock area.

I also felt this recurring pain on my right upper hip just above the pelvic bone ( it has been there for more than 15 years).

Worse is; my regular trip to the toilet suddenly became scarce  and it started to bring me problem. I started to feel bloated, and I think I have a problem in my colon.

I started to freak out! What happen? I never felt these problems before. OMG!! i thought old age has taken its toll on me! This pain just suddenly popped out like a thief in the night, without any precedent!

I hate to take medicines, but the pain was so unbearable and need to see a doctor. All those laboratory checkups yielded no result. Pain killers just eased the pain temporarily and when its efficacy subsided, the pain is back again.

Until I can’t even climb the stairs going up to the classroom, so I always take the elevator (I used to take the stairs for exercise). Walking was a misery! A mere 50 meter walk makes me feel like my thighs are being pulled out from my crotch area!

Believe me when I say; there’s a pain……… a physical pain that wouldn’t go away. And worst is, it just came so suddenly. I contemplated on retiring. The pain is killing me every day, and nobody is with me…..my daughter is in America with her family and my sons are in the Philippines.

ISRAEL & DELIA BALASE
One day I was in the church and my friend sister Delia, a physical therapist took notice of my uncomfortable form, while sitting down……(I felt like my pelvic area is splitting away from my body)! When I told her what I was feeling, out of pity, she offered to come to my apartment to give me a massage.

It was my first time to experience such kind of massage. She worked first on the sole of my feet. There were areas in my sole that I felt so much pain when she presses. Before the session ended, i had a series of farts!
She told me I have a problem with my solar plexus.

SPECIFIC LOCATION OF SOLAR PLEXUS
“Solar what?” sounds strange to me. I listened intently as she was explaining to me in detail what solar plexus is. As an artist and a fashion designer/educator, I didn’t have any idea what a solar plexus is, and I am wondering why the doctors didn’t say anything about it.

I woke up with a very much improved feeling the following day. There was still a slight pain in the same areas, but they were not excruciating anymore.

After 2 weeks, I can walk a far greater distance, and can use the stairs again. She continued with my therapy session for a month, two or three times a week, and i noticed she always end up by "putting my solar plexus back to its place. And now, I’m as good as new!

Out of curiosity I searched solar plexus in Google. Wikipedia didn't have much. It has a citation on top which says:

"This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources

anyways, it says :

SOLAR PLEXUS
is a complex network of nerves (a plexus) located in the abdomen, where the celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, and renal arteries branch from the abdominal aorta. It is behind the stomach and the omental bursa, and in front of the crura of the diaphragm, on the level of the first lumbar vertebra, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celiac_plexus

Aside from this it doesn't specify what it does to our body, or any medical explanation why we feel the pain, or what it's function to the specific parts of our body.

ILLUSTRATION TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA
I personally asked my masseuse friend Delia Balase, wife of our guitarist in church Israel Balase, (both are active members of the music ministry of the christian church), about solar plexus and what it does to our body.

she said: the solar plexus is the center of energy that we get from the sun. (although i think, the believers in the "chakras" have a slightly different explanation for the solar plexus), and she continue by saying; since physically all the nerves from this area goes to the specific regions of our body, when this plexus is not in its proper place, it will create an imbalance in our body. most often, we feel heaviness and we feel the pain in different parts of the body."

Four months after, i can't help but wonder, especially when i'm alone, on how God created us in such a mysterious way!

We can always check if our solar plexus is in the proper place. just put the tip of your pointer finger on top of Your navel, and press down slightly, if you'll feel the beat under your finger, then it's in its proper place. if you can't feel the beat, then it's not in the proper place and chance is you are not in perfect shape.

I am anyway thankful for knowing this.  now, more than ever, every time i feel pain and discomfort like a lingering pain of heartburn, i have learned to press down my solar plexus to its proper place.

So next time if you fell lingering pain, don't be hopeless. consult a physiotherapist, they might be able to solve your problem without popping those pain killers.

Oh by the way, don't try doing this by yourself, if you don't know how to, because its painful. When the expert does this, am sure you wouldn't feel the pain.
